Downfall – 3D Arcade Puzzle Game
Review by on
The first thing you need to know about Downfall, an application offered by Norbyte, is what this application is and what it can do for you. I will try to provide you with a brief and to the point explanation, so here goes: Downfall is a 3D arcade puzzle game (there’s a Windows and a Mac OS X version. The game is similar to Tetris. Blocks fall from above and you have to arrange them to form lines. When a line is formed, it will disappear.

That takes care of the “what is Downfall?” question. Let’s move on to “what can Downfall do for me?” question. The answer to this one is quite simple: Downfall provides you with a fun way to spend your time. The game offers a combination that is hard to beat: it’s easy to learn and it is fun to play.

Learning to play Downfall will not pose a problem to any type of computer user, not even the novice one. If you’ve played Tetris in the past (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?), you should not have any problems picking up the basics of this game. Even if you never played Tetris in the past (which is pretty hard to believe), this game is so easy to learn you will be playing it like a pro in no time at all.

Don’t think that because picking up the basics is easy, you will be able to easily master the game. There are over 30 boards to go through and for each you will have to use a different strategy. You will have to adjust your tactics to ensure you master the game.

Before you go get Downfall and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:

Download – the download weighs in at 1.2MB. A 1.2MB download will complete in no time at all, even if you are on a less than spectacular internet connection.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Downfall provides support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. The Mac version of Downfall provides support for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, 10.5 Leopard, and 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Limitations – 15 trial sessions.

Pros
  • Lightweight download
  • Easy to learn
  • More than 30 boards
  • Customizable keyboard keys and mouse buttons
  • Import/export highscores
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons
  • Free to try
  • Nag screen
  • Not exactly the best looking graphics
